“Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, renowned as the globe’s foremost private mobile data network, has unveiled an innovative satellite-driven giga-fibre service by the name of Jio Space Fibre. This pioneering initiative marks a significant leap in delivering high-speed broadband connectivity to hitherto underserved regions. This initiative is aimed at delivering high-speed broadband connectivity to remote and underserved areas in India.

The unveiling of this cutting-edge satellite broadband service took place during the India Mobile Congress on October 27. Reliance Jio has set forth an ambitious plan to make Jio Space Fibre accessible across the nation at exceptionally competitive rates, as stated in an official company announcement.

Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, expressed the significance of this endeavor, saying, “Jio has already enabled millions of households and businesses in India to experience broadband internet for the very first time. With the introduction of Jio Space Fibre, our objective is to extend our reach to include the millions who are yet to be connected.”

Jio Space Fiber will allow everyone, everywhere, to fully participate in the new digital society.

He further highlighted the transformative potential of Jio Space Fiber, stating, “Jio Space Fiber will empower individuals from all walks of life to participate fully in the emerging digital society, providing them with gigabit access to essential online services, spanning government, education, healthcare, and entertainment.”

At present, Jio boasts a substantial presence in the Indian high-speed broadband landscape, serving more than 450 million consumers with a range of fixed-line and wireless options. In its commitment to accelerate digital inclusivity for households nationwide, Jio has seamlessly integrated Jio Space Fiber into its already comprehensive suite of broadband services, which includes JioFibre and JioAirFibre.”

Jio’s offerings open doors for individuals and businesses, providing unmatched access to reliable, low-latency, high-speed internet, and entertainment services, regardless of their geographic location. This satellite network brings increased capacity for mobile backhaul, significantly extending the reach and scalability of Jio True5G, even in the most remote corners of the nation, as stated in an official release by the telecom company.

In a strategic partnership with SES, Jio gains access to the cutting-edge medium earth orbit (MEO) satellite technology, tapping into the exclusive MEO constellation capable of delivering truly unique Gigabit, fiber-like services directly from space. With Jio leveraging the capabilities of SES’s O3b and the new O3b mPOWER satellites, it stands as the sole provider of groundbreaking technology, offering scalable and cost-effective broadband solutions that span the entire expanse of India.

As an impressive demonstration of its capabilities and extensive coverage, Jio Space Fiber has already established connectivity in four of India’s remotest regions—Gir in Gujarat, Korba in Chhattisgarh, Nabarangpur in Odisha, and ONGC-Jorhat in Assam. This achievement underscores the vast potential of Jio Space Fiber in bringing high-speed broadband services to areas that were previously underserved within the country.

John-Paul Hemingway, the Chief Strategy Officer at SES, conveyed, “In partnership with Jio, we are honored to contribute to the Government of India’s Digital India campaign by offering a unique solution focused on delivering multiple gigabits per second of data transfer to any corner of India.” He continued, “Our initial fiber-like services from space are already operational in parts of India, and we eagerly anticipate the digital transformation this will bring, even in the most rural regions of the nation.

“With Jio, consumers and businesses have unprecedented access to reliable, low latency, and high-speed internet and entertainment services, regardless of location. The satellite network will also support additional capacity for mobile backhaul, further enhancing the availability and scale of Jio True5G in the remotest parts of the country,” the company said in a statement.

The global satellite internet market was pegged at $2.93 Bn in 2020 and is expected to rise to $18.59 Bn by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 20.4% during the 2021-2030 period, according to a report.
